Phuket is a beach city, so it’s easy to see why Loy Krathong is such a huge thing here. If you’re planning to go to Phuket in November, this is an event you just shouldn’t miss. With that said, let’s get into the details of what you can do during this time:

What is Loy Krathong?

Loy Krathong is a celebration in Thai culture that aims to show gratitude towards Pra Mae Kongka or the Goddess of Rivers and Water. People will use banana leaves to make a small floater and put them out on the river or any body of water. It’s a gorgeous sight to see when all the lights are off and the river is shining with candlelight.

Where can I do during Loy Krathong?

All bodies of water are fair game during Loy Krathong. Coincidentally, Phuket is an island with lakes in the middle of it. Here are some of the places you should consider going to during this time:

Nai Harn Lake

This lake is usually reserved for water sports such as jet skiing, kayaking, and kiteboarding. But during Loy Krathong, it’s the place to be. You can go here to watch and participate in the events.

Karon Lake

Same with Nai Harn Lake, Karon Lake is also a popular spot for tourists during Loy Krathong.

Saphan Hin Park

This park has a small stream that runs through it, making it a lovely little spot the whole family can enjoy.

Suan Luang (King Rama IX) Park

King Rama IX Park is a quiet little location in the middle of Phuket, which is perfect for a small group of friends to come and enjoy the show from a distance.

Other great locations to go to if you want to participate in the festivities of Loy Krathong include:

Bang Ma Ruan, Tambon Sri Sonthong

Nai Harn Lake, Tambon Rawai

Laguna Phuket, Tambon Cherng Thale

Kathu Park, Tambon Kathu

Patong Beach

During this time of year, all the stalls and street vendors will come out to capitalize on the increased number of tourists. You can find just about any type of street food you can imagine in Phuket during Loy Krathong.
