Phuket, the pearl of the Andaman, brings many visitors to Thailand. This island’s reputation never fails to precede itself with its gorgeous beaches and fun adventures. Whether you’re looking for a tourist or local experience, there are so many activities for all lifestyles. Whether you’re travelling with friends, family, or alone, you will find something to do while you’re in Phuket. Here are some attractions that you may want to add to your itinerary:

Hike up to Phang Nga’s cave temple

You simply cannot visit Thailand without going to at least one temple. The big Buddha at Wat Chalong, also known as Wat Tham Suwan Khuha, is an iconic monument that’s worth seeing. It is a little bit of a drive from town, but completely worth the view if you do decide to go. With the temple’s 50-foot reclining Buddha, this temple is the most unique of all of Thailand’s temples.

Learn to make some Thai food

Thai food is one of the most popular cuisines in the world. If you are a huge fan of Thai food yourself, why not learn to make your favourite dishes? Learning to cook is a skill that you can take with you in order to teach or to cook for all your friends and family back home. When you learn to make popular Thai dishes, you will get the real authenticity of the method of making the food as well as how to find the right ingredients. At the end of the class, you will get to eat your creation as well!

Visit Phuket Old Town

Phuket’s Old Town is a hot spot and a place where everyone goes to shop and buy various items at the walking street market. The architecture has a heavily European influence with its classical shop-houses and Sino-colonial mansions. These quaint old buildings showcase little bakeries, cafes, and shops to explore as you wander the streets.

Stop by the fisherman village of Koh Panyee

This unique little floating village lies in Phang Nga Bay, near James Bond Island. One thing that distinguishes it from many other villages is the fact that it stands completely on stilts. This little village is fully equipped with a school, a police station, and a health centre. There are great little shops to visit to buy souvenirs and knick-knacks for yourself or loved ones. Rather than going with the tourist cruise, it’s much easier to make your own way there and beat the crowd. You will need to drive to Surakul Pier and hire a longtail boat to get to Koh Panyee from there.

Shop and eat at all the street markets

Night markets are the place to be when you are looking for cheap clothes, souvenirs, and delicious, authentic Thai cuisine. You will also get to dip your feet into where the locals hang out and mingle. Visit these food stalls and try out new things. Walking streets and night markets are your chance to do this.

Learn Muay Thai

Muay Thai is a strenuous activity that takes agility and strength. If you are looking for a good workout where you are sure to break a sweat,  Muay Thai is the way to go. Try out this martial art at any gym in town or go watch a show if you’d rather watch rather than practise yourself.
